River Tubing on West Canada Creek: Everything You Need to Know Before You Float
West Canada Creek Tubing opens mid-June and runs through Labor Day - now's the time to start planning your summer float.
If you've never floated down West Canada Creek on a warm summer day, it belongs on your list.
Tucked in the Adirondack foothills just minutes from Utica, NY, West Canada Creek Tubing is one of Upstate New York's best-kept summer secrets - a lazy, scenic float through some of the most beautiful countryside in Central New York. Whether you're planning a family day out, a friend group adventure, or a peaceful solo float, there's a route for you.
Here's everything you need to know before you go.

Where Is It?
West Canada Creek Tubing is located at 12275 State Route 28 in Poland, NY - right at West Canada Creek Campground. There's free parking on site, and everything starts and ends in the same spot. No shuttling your own car, no logistics headaches.
It's an easy drive from Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, and Albany - making it a perfect day trip or weekend getaway destination.
How Does It Work?
Simple. Book your tube online, sign your waiver digitally before you arrive, and show up ready to float. A 29-passenger shuttle bus takes you upriver to your drop-off point, and from there the creek does the work. When your float is done, you end up right back at the campground.
No experience needed. Just show up.
Which Route Should You Choose?
There are three routes, and the right one depends on how much time you have and who's coming with you.
Route 28 Bridge — About 1 Hour
The most popular route and perfect for first-timers, families with young kids, or anyone who just wants a relaxing hour on the water. The current is calm and easy, and the scenery doesn't disappoint.
Comstock Bridge — About 4 Hours
The sweet spot for most groups. More twists and turns, more river to explore, and plenty of time to relax, laugh, and take in the Adirondack views. Great for families with older kids and friend groups.
Putnam Road — About 6 Hours
A full day on the water across five scenic miles of the creek. Many guests bring snacks and drinks and fully settle in - some even drift off for a nap mid-float. If you want the full West Canada Creek experience, this is it.

What Should You Bring?
• Sunscreen - you'll be out in the sun for hours
• Water shoes or sandals with a strap
• A dry bag for your phone, wallet, and keys (available for purchase at the tubing shack and camp store)
• Snacks and drinks for the longer routes
• A change of clothes for after
Leave the flip flops at home. Things go in the river.
Good to Know Before You Go
Tubing season runs mid-June through Labor Day, Thursday to Sunday plus Holiday Mondays. The creek flows best from June through September, and water levels are updated daily on the website so you always know what to expect before you arrive.
A few practical notes: the weight limit per tube is 250 pounds, pets can't join (their nails puncture the tubes), and all guests must sign a waiver - parents sign for minors. Life jackets are provided and strongly recommended.
If you're planning to go, weekdays and early weekends tend to be less crowded.

Make a Weekend of It
A tubing trip is even better when you don't have to drive home after.
West Canada Creek Campground is right on site - with spacious RV sites, cozy cabins, and creekside tent camping surrounded by Adirondack beauty. Wake up, grab a coffee, tube the creek, come back to your site. That's a pretty good day.
Tubing opens mid-June, so plan your summer stay around it. Sites fill up fast on tubing weekends.
